Good vet visit

I took Widget to the vet for her first round of shots and I was pleasantly surprised that it was only $27.00. When I found her she weighed exactly 1lb. As of last nights vet visit, she was 2.1lbs so she has doubled in size in the 3 weeks that I've had her. The vet says she is now the picture of health and looking wonderful. I did learn that her coloring is technically called brindle. I thought she was a cross between a tortie and a calico but the vet says that's called brindle. I was so happy to hear that she was all better. She was so small and thin and could barely eat when we found her because she had been on her own for 3 days without her mom but she's nice and chubby and has such a cute buda belly now.

Took care of getting the house picked up too. I really hate that chore.

busy... but fun busy

Saturday was a wonderful day. I finally started to feel a little better after being diagnosed with infected sinuses. The gtg was a blast and it was wonderful to see people that I hadn't seen in a while. I was also blown away by Stacey's artwork and promptly bought 1 print and ordered 2 more. I'm shameless. Our trip to hobby lobby left me with 4 new frames so I need to get stretching and lacing. I also took home a piece of Cindy's to lace. I've been working on it a little each day to get the fabric back in shape before I try to relace it. It should be ready to lace in another couple of days.

Work was a little hectic yesterday because of missing 2 days but I enjoyed the business. Two of the other girls in the office are sick with the same thing that I have/had.

Tonight, I'm going to the vet with Widget. Actually DH is taking her to the vet while I wait at work cause of the one car issue. Hopefully, he'll be by to pick me up around 7pm.

Tomorrow, Valerie may come to visit me so she can say hey and take a look at Widget. I hope she likes her and is willing to give her a home.

I brought lots of stuff with me today so that I have something to do while waiting on Dh tonight too. I even brought some cross stitch but I don't know if I'll do that or the crochet.

*HUGS* to everyone

City Life

There are many things that I love about living in the city. There is easy access to every kinda store out there. There are always people to watch and things to do. For the most part, I really enjoy living in the city over the country and Lord knows I spent most of my early years out in the middle of nowhere Texas. Thursday I was reminded of one of bad things about living in the city.

I stayed home from work Thursday do to a nasty cold and infected sinuses that I'm now on antibiotics for. Dh came home and being the wonderful husband that he is, made me some soup, did some laundry, and he did the dishes too. As I was getting ready to go to bed, I heard some loud popping and started to work my way to the window to see what idiot was popping off firecrackers in the parking lot. That's when I heard the unpleasant noise of a bullet hitting the outside of my bedroom wall. Dh had also looked out the window from the living room and he actually saw the guy firing the gun at a red pick-up truck. The guy fired 7 or 8 times and he and the 3 people with him ran off. We called the police. Before the police got here, the owner of the red truck came out and took off. The police picked up the shell casings and took a look at the outside of my apartment and made sure that none of the bullets penetrated the wall. They said that they'd keep a lookout for the guys and for the truck and then they left.

Needless to say, I had a restless night. I stayed home again today cause I couldn't talk. Dh stayed home with me to take care of me and so I wouldn't be alone after the exciting night. I went to the doctor today too cause I was worried that I had strep and didn't want to give that to anyone. The doc said it was sinusitis though and that I wasn't contagious.

The little widget decided to move up her feeding schedule today. While I was home sick, I decided to let her out all day since she's using the litter box well. I left the cage open so she could get in to her food. She saw the adult cats eating the hard food though so she planted herself in the middle of their food bowl and tried to eat. She stayed there until she managed it too. I put out some hard kitten food and she is now determined that she doesn't need that wimpy soft food anymore. This is good news for me cause it means she can be let lose all the time in the house, I don't have to mix that smelly wet food anymore, and she is now adoptable to a home. Know anyone who wants a cat?

Well, I'm off to get a good nights sleep. Take care.

discoveries

While talking about hobbies at work yesterday, I learned that my office manager used to design cross stitch and that she still stitches. My coworker from Bosnia also cross stitches. My third coworker doesn't stitch but she does crochet. It's amazing how many people that I'm discovering that are going back to doing some kind of handwork. The more people that I find, the less I feel like an old lady :)

There isn't much new going on. I need to take some pictures of Widget (the new little kitten that we found) She's growing like a weed and I really wish she would start eating hard food so I could stop feeding her the smelly soft food *yuck*. She is at least using the litter box now. If Mischief would stop hissing at her and she'd start eating hard food, I could let her roam through the house freely.

Hope everyone is doing okay.

I've been very bad

Last weekend, I was supposed to sew some curtains for FOA volunteer work and I was going to bake some cookies as a thank you to a friend. I was very bad though. I spent the entire weekend playing Lego Star Wars on the PS2.

I realized this morning that I haven't picked up a needle in over 2 weeks. This is probably one of the longest stretches that I've gone without stitching. I blame this on my DH. He's got me collecting and reading comic books so I've been reading those instead of stitching. This is also do in part to my new commute. I spend an hour more ever day in the car but I'm actually driving instead of riding so no stitching in the car. I also no longer get a lunch away from my desk. With this new job, I have to eat while I work in return for only having a 8 hour day so I don't get to read at lunch so I'm doing my reading in the evenings too which leaves less time for stitching.

I'm looking forward to the stitching GTG this weekend. I can at least show the pieces that I had done for the last gtg since most of the people coming to this one didn't make the last one but I haven't stitching anything since the last gtg.

I really do need to give up on the Lego Star Wars for at least one night so that I can get those curtains sewn up on the sewing machine. Unfortunately, the Lego's are calling to me.

sorry about falling of the face of the earth

I've been keeping really busy.

June 4- we went to the ren fair again and had lots more fun. We also came home with 3 more swords since they were having so many sales. I gave Phoenix his change purse with the phoenix on it too. It was really nice to see the little guys face light up and I really enjoyed all the hugs. Valerie also looked great in her costume.

June 5th - I noticed the bruise on my knee had spread and I now had a bruise all the way down the front of my shin from knee to ankle and my leg throbbed. I spent most of the day resting.

June 6th - first day on the new job. After just a few hours, I discovered that the girls in the office are just as crazy as me and thankfully have the same sense of humor. I'm still the youngest in the office but there is a girl in her 30's and one in her 40's that aren't far off from me and we share some similar interests even if they don't cross stitch. The office is a lot of fun and I like the people. We also have clients that are a little more cooperative. When I would tell them what I needed, they just said okay and did it. This was a huge change from what I was used to at the other office where the clients argued with you at every turn.

June 7-10 - I spent the rest of the week taking phone calls and learning how to do stuff that the old boss wouldn't let me do. I can now do all kinds of life insurance and I'm learning how to do mortgages, bank loans, cd's, ira's and all the fun bank stuff.

Saturday (june 11) we intended to go to the tennesee aquariam to since we hadn't been in several years and they have a new exibit since the last time we were there but due to the music festival they were having, we ended up not going. We went out for lunch and then to the bookstore and then over to Mark's house (those of you that follow this is the one I call the pervert). We ended up spending 5 hours over there while he and DH discussed the comics that were coming out in August. We finally got home around midnight and I fell into an exhausted lump.

Sunday, DH decided to walk mischief. This was her first walk since she got hurt. Her paw is completely healed. I wish I could say that about my knee but it is still bruised and very sore. While they were walking, I started the laundry and decided to start cleaning my closet cause it was getting to be a mess. While I was cleaning my closet, I heard DH calling my name very loudly from outside. The first thought was "oh my god she got lose again". I ran to the window to see DH right outside the window with Mischief still securely in her harness. There was however one of the smallest kittens I've ever seen walking up to Mischief and meowing as if to say "mommy I found you!" I ran outside and picked the little thing up and petted it. While we were outside one of the maintenance men came by and said that the mother had abandoned them and he had caught 2 and took them home but was unable to catch the one I was holding. I was horrified to learn that the little kitten had been abandoned but even more sickened by the fact that he had caught the other two 3 days ago which meant that this little girl had been all by herself without food for at least 3 days. Needless to say we took her inside and then to the vet. $200 later she was checked out, dewormed, declared about 4-5 wks old and malnourished. We took her back home and fixed her a box cause she's too small to know how to use a litter box yet and gave her a bath. I thought Mischief would welcome her but there was a lot of hissing Sunday night.

Monday, I had a blast at work. The girls are more and more fun the longer I know them. I'm learning more and more and getting to do more and more. I've already managed to earn a commission for my first check when I get it on the 15th. I rushed home to play with the kitten. I was a little worried that she still hadn't eaten so I sent DH to the store to get some milk replacer. The vet told us that she should be able to eat wet food since she her teeth were coming in but she hadn't touched it. We got her to eat some milk and I mixed some with the wet food and left it in her box overnight.

Tuesday. When we got up this morning, I was very happy to see that the kitten had eaten the wet food after I mixed it with the milk so I mixed her up half a can to last her through today while I'm at work. I also discovered that she was using the litter box already which really surprised me cause the vet told us that would probably take another week. When I got to work, I discovered that I can access the blogs again from work so I promise to get better about updating. My leg is still sore but it is healing very slowly. I'm enjoying my new job and soaking up all the new information with joy.

Thanks for thinking of me guys!

The best laid plans get killed by Mischief the cat

Friday was a very boring and a little sad for me. It was my last day at a job that I had been at for over 6 years. I had several people come in and say goodbye and they were really sad that I was leaving but there wasn't much that I could do about it. When I arrived in the office at 8am, the computers and file cabinets had already been packed up. The only thing left in the office were the phones and two desks that weren't going to the new office. It looked like a ghost office. I had to sit there with nothing to do all day. At 9:30, my new boss came in to pick up the desk he had bought for me and he left so by 10am it was just me a desk and a phone. At 1pm, the old boss called and told me how to get the phone forwarded to the new office so the phone stopped ringing after that too. I knew they were going to be moving everything on Friday so I had brought a book and some yarn to crochet with. I finished my book and almost 2 squares on the afghan.

Saturday, we got up early to go to the bookstore and to a couple of other places. As we were leaving Mischief made a bid for escape and went out the door. She ran up the outside stairs on our building so Dh went up one side and I started up the other side just in time to see her jump from the second story stairs onto the concrete below (about a 12ft jump). I ran down the stairs after her and when I was 2 steps from the bottom my knee locked and I fell down the rest of the stairs. Dh continued after Mischief and by the time I was able to stand up, he had caught her. We took her back in the house and looked her over and discovered that she had hurt one of her paws but it looked like she had only skinned one of the pads a little and she wasn't favoring it so we thought she would be fine. We then had to doctor me up. Both of my knees were horribly skinned as was my left elbow. We got me bandaged up and went about our errands. On our next to last errand, I was having a very hard time walking. When I went in to the bathroom I noticed that my right knee had a huge baseball size lump in it and was bruised from about 1in above my knee all they way down below my knee. I told DH and we stopped at walmart and bought some of those one time use ice packs to help with the swelling and went on our way to the last errand.

Sunday morning, I couldn't walk. I spent the day in the recliner with ice packs on my knee at regular intervals. I also ended up taking a painkiller that I had left over from my surgery cause the pain was so bad. I started to consider going to the hospital in fear that I had broken something.

Monday we had planned to go back to the ren fair but I still wasn't walking very well. The icing from the day before had helped a lot though and all the swelling was gone but the nasty bruising remained so we stayed home. I crocheted a little more and I even managed to start enchanted mermaid. While playing with Mischief, Dh noticed that the pad she had scraped was bleeding badly. Our regular vet was closed, so we put a bandage on her paw and drove to petsmart. I had been advised not to go the vets in petsmart but they were the only ones open in a nearby radius so that's where we went. they took her in, the vet looked at her foot and watched her walk. he said that he didn't think it was broken and then he gave her a pain killer and gave it 20 minutes to take effect. he then came back in and held her down while his assitant shaved her paw. He let go for a moment to get a better hold cause Mischief had been fighting like crazy. As he let go, Mischief started an all out assault on anyone who got near her whild screaching like only a cat with siamese blood in her can do. The vet never could get another hold on her so we left with some antibiotic and instructions to put the antibiotic on her 3 times a day and too keep her paw bandaged for several days. The long and short of it is that I paid $120 bucks to have my cat's leg shaved on the underneath and to get a very pissed off cat. Needless to say, we will never go back to that vet.

Tuesday, I got up early and took DH in to work and then went into my new office to get my desk set up. I got to meet the other girls in the office too and I was very happy to see they all look like very pleasant people. It's going to be stranged working in an office with 4 other girls. The jobs that I've worked in, it was usually just me or me and one other girl. I hope that I like the new job and I'm a little nervous about starting on Monday of next week.

Wednesday, we slept in late and then went out to lunch with my mom. I thankfully had stopped limping by then. Justin didn't feel like doing anything after lunch so we came back home and relaxed again all day. I managed to read 2 more books and work on Justin's gemstone dragon for the ren fair money purse that I'm making him.

And now it's Thursday morning already and I haven't really done anything on my vacation. I never went to the doc since we were able to get the swelling under control on my knees. Mischief's vet visit canceled our plans to go to Savannah today and tomorrow. I may try to talk Dh into going to Norwood's tomorrow just so I can get out of the house. We are now planning to go the ren fair this saturday. Today however is probably going to be spent in the recliner stitching.

Hope everyone else is having a good week.
